Statement from our CoComply co-founders
The delay to IR35 has provided relief for so many at a time when the flexible work force is needed more than ever.
Businesses need to ensure they use this time wisely, do not wait until the last minute to try to make the right changes.
Those that have made the blanket ban, use the time to reassess and explore new solutions to provide compliant outside IR35 opportunities as soon as possible.
Contractors, rejoice today but don’t use this as a free pass, remember liability remains with you to self-determine correctly – so try to get the right contracts in place with your clients.
This is just a delay – albeit one that is extremely welcome for so many, and one we wish had come under better circumstances.
The Rt Hon Steve Barclay MP, Chief Secretary to the Treasury has stressed the government is merely postponing the reforms to the off payroll working rules, in a bid to help businesses and individuals manage the impact of Covid-19. The move is a deferral, not a cancellation nor is it being being scrapped entirely!
As the government remains committed to introducing the controversial tax reform in April 2021, it is important for the contractor community to understand how your employment contract establishes the rights and responsibilities for both yourself and your employer, whilst businesses should cease this lifeline to successfully drive change in their working practices to ensure PSC contractors work and thrive in an outside IR35 compliant manner.
